1857: Guesthouse Melber is established. In the family chronicles from this time the following entry can be read: Stamsried native Johann Georg Fraundorfer is the new Melber landlord following his marriage to the local Partenkirchen landlord’s daughter Barbara Deiringer. Following her death he was to marry Katharina Hutter from neighbouring Garmisch
1865: On the night of December 6th the Guesthouse Melber is destroyed by fire and subsequently rebuilt by Georg Fraundorfer. Afterwards he passes the family business on to his son Josef who is named in local chronicles as Guesthouse Melber landlord from 1898 onwards.
1929 Josef and Maria Fraundorfer aquire the premises situated on Ludwigstrasse 24 from the master confectioner Berghofer whence they opened their “Frauendorfersche Restaurant”. Their son Peppi Fraundorfer was to learn the business beginning in his childhood in order to stand him in good stead to later assume the role of landlord. To this end following completion of an apprenticeship as a butcher he begins one as a chef in the Bayerischen Hof in Munich which eventually leads him to Zurich and French Switzerland the onwards to Spain, Morocco and a stint onboard the MS Hamburg before returning home to marry his sweetheart Barbara.
1964 Bärbel and Peppi Fraundorfer assume responsibility for the continuation of the family business The historical premises are adapted and decorated to reflect the character of its guests, a process which was achieved without disturbing the character or original cosiness of the building, retaining the original atmosphere was of paramount importance to the new Innkeepers. Barbara brought a wealth of experience in the gastronomy branch gained during an apprenticeship as a Hotel Specialist in Posthotel Wallgau and from her time in the Lucerne Hotel Institute.
Their son Peppi who after successfully qualifying as both a chef and Hotel Specialist had intended to follow in his parents footsteps before his untimely death in a car crash at 23 years old. This tragic event was to pull the family even closer together.
2001 Daughters Barbara and Andrea take over the day to day running of the family business from their parents. Both are highly qualified and experienced for their roles in the family tradition, Barbara after her apprenticeship in Hotel Management had returned home to complete her Hotelier masters papers after spending time in Engadin and Wallis in Switzerland before moving to Montreal Canada. Andrea had served her time as a chef in Otto Kochs “Le Gourmet" in Munich before gaining valuable experience in her profession at home, in Switzerland and in Canada. Barbara and Andrea are now the fourth generation of the family to assume responsibility for the running of the business and fully intend to stick to the historical and traditional values with which the inn has become synonymous
2006: Andrea assumes responsibility of the Berggasthof Panorama a favourite destination of Partenkirchners and tourists alike. Barbara remains to greet guests from all over the world in the “Fraundorfer” never forgetting the family motto:
“Regulars, locals or strangers from afar, all are assured a hearty welcome”.
